Draft Lottery to be Re-Enacted at Rally

Just before President Bush speaks at the Republican Convention, students at Lake Forest College will hold a rally to oppose a resumption of the military draft for the war in Iraq. The rally will begin at 5:45 P.M. on Thursday, September 2, on the college campus, located at 555 North Sheridan Road, Lake Forest, Illinois. Speakers will include a 24-year-old veteran of the Iraq war, a Viet Nam war veteran, an attorney who represents people who are in the military, and Lee Goodman, Democratic candidate for Congress from the 10th District of Illinois. The rally will also feature a simulated draft lottery to demonstrate how students’ lives will be affected by the luck of the draw. The rally is sponsored by the campus College Democrats and the Goodman for Congress campaign.
